Budding Branches: Cecilia Dalrymple (12) shows her love for spring in this state-winning ceramic piece by putting growing flowers on the front. “The ‘Budding Branches Vase’ was the first clay/ceramic piece I ever made,” Dalrymple said. “I knew I wanted to make a simple, classy vase but with a fun, little detail added into it.”

New Appearances: Wright Library created a new amphitheater off to the side of their youth section so kids can play in a designated space. Nathaniel Upton (10) said, “I think the space has been improved because it looks a lot more comfortable and chill so you can read or study easier.”

Real-world Relevance: Students from all around the Dayton district settle into Fairmont High School’s auditorium to hear Yaa Gyasi’s insight on her novel “Homegoing,” a book about the Fante and Ashanti tribal regions. Gyasi said, “I wanted to focus on those two ethnic groups as a way of thinking through my own lineage.”
