The Senior’s last day in class was May 15 as they head toward graduation on May 28. Although it will be a heartfelt moment for all, they will have made memories along the way that will last a lifetime of excitement and fun. The teachers who have taught the seniors since freshman year have fond memories of their favorite seniors.
“What was most memorable about the Senior year was that they started as freshmen in 2021 which was the year where we had half days and so I would only see like 5 or 6 at a time and it was just really new to all of us. There are some good standouts in the senior class and I like a lot of them. I love the senior class and I will miss them dearly,” Matt Deters said.
Although it was a weird period of teaching for the seniors and teachers, there were also new opportunities that came along the way. Teachers came and went during Covid and they also created memorable experiences with their students such as Britany Juhas who started teaching in 2019.
“My favorite memory about the seniors is probably watching them come up from their freshman year and seeing how much they progressed over the years. I started teaching in Oakwood in 2019 and for me it just feels like they’ve moved with me since the beginning. I will miss the moments and memories that I made with them along the way,” Juhas said.
Throughout the new experiences that teachers face, they also have long lasting memories with their students by bonding time with them during class, lunch, and even after school.
“One of my favorite memories with the senior class is when I would break them into small groups, I would play music for them when we transitioned from one topic to the next and they would start singing and dancing as a class, and I thought that was so fun. I will genuinely miss all of the seniors that I have taught or even not taught this year, ” Amy Ostdiek said.
Although it is sad to see the Seniors graduate, it was still memorable for the teachers and the seniors to create lasting memories together for ages to come. Looking back on their time as freshmen to where they are now, they sure have achieved much.
