On Tuesday, Jan. 9, a Superintendent/Principal Advisory Council meeting took place to help the superintendent and principal communicate with the student body.
The influence of ChatGPT was discussed; specifically, whether the tool is helpful or harmful to students and their schoolwork.
Dr. Neil Gupta, Oakwood’s superintendent, also shared a new idea: a spotlight on some of Oakwood Schools’ programs that make the school different and unique from other schools.
This program would be called “State of the Schools,” which is modeled after the president’s State of the Union address, where the president explains the state of our country.
Updates on the Rick and Jane Schwartz wing were discussed as well, stating that the art rooms will move into the old music rooms upon the completion of the new arts wing.
Trinity Franklin (9) believes that the monthly meetings are beneficial to the students that attend them. “I feel like they [the meetings] can teach you to be really prompt, especially when you are in the real world, as it teaches you time management,” Franklin said.
Gupta agrees and says that he believes that students should have a say into the decisions that impact Oakwood schools.
“I personally believe that it [what’s important] is not what I believe education is,” Gupta said. “I believe it [education] is asking students in that moment in time before decisions are made.”
