Memes can be found on meme platforms and social media platforms, each with a variety of different features. Each platform has benefits and problems, but some provide a better viewing experience. The platform you use may depend on what you are looking for.

Instagram

Instagram, a platform that has over one billion monthly active users according to statista, is one of the most popular meme platforms. Instagram allows up to ten photos or videos per post, allowing one post to have multiple memes.

These memes can be original or come from other platforms. Instagram users often post memes from Twitter, iFunny and TikTok. Instagram recommends memes algorithmically based on your liked, shared and saved content.

Instagram can be used for more than just memes. Along with memes, there is private messaging and photo sharing. Because Instagram is a social media platform, you can follow creators, which allows you to see the memes they post and their stories.

With the ability to live stream, save posts, caption, comment and like comments, Instagram offers the most features compared to other platforms.

YouTube

According to studiobinder, Youtube was released in 2005 as a video sharing platform where memes quickly became popular. YouTube is home to the important videos playlist which holds 311 videos. It often holds the full versions of memes you will find on Instagram or Twitter.

The site has unique creators that make entertaining videos, including Penguinz0, Pewdiepie and CallMeCarson. YouTube allows you to subscribe to these creators so you can continue to receive similar content, as well as like and dislike videos. Liking videos will lead to receiving similar content.

Twitter

Twitter is a social media platform that allows people to post and interact. Twitter has a lot of original memes due to the number of users on the platform. According to statista, Twitter has over 330 million active monthly users.

Twitter allows hashtags, which increase the rate at which memes trend. A lot of new memes come from Twitter as a response to trending world events.

TikTok

TikTok, previously known as Musical.ly, was acquired by a Chinese company called ByteDance in 2017 according to The Verge. This changed the name of Musical.ly, but the core features remained.

TikTok is a video sharing platform that includes commenting, liking and following. TikTok allows you to download videos, giving it an advantage over other platforms. Like Instagram, memes are recommended algorithmically based on your liking.

Reddit

Reddit is a discussion website that allows upvoting and even downvoting. Reddit is one of the only platforms other than YouTube that allows you to dislike a comment. If you are interested in a certain type of meme format, you can follow a subreddit that is dedicated to the meme.

Since you are able to find a niche group on Reddit, you can find memes that suit your taste. Reddit is home to many popular meme subreddits. Subreddits include MemeEconomy, ComedyCemetery, memes, dankmemes, PrequelMemes and terriblefacebookmemes.

If you want a social media experience along with memes, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok would be your best option. YouTube is a good place for longer videos. Reddit is a better platform when it comes to community.

In reality, each meme platform has its strengths and weaknesses. It doesn’t matter what meme platform you use, they all have good memes.
